Mr. & Mrs. Peter Cottrell, Whitefield, N.H. have been walking since April when they left Cincinnati, Ohio en route to Denver, Colo. Their goal is back packing across the American Discovery Trail.

Reinbeck City Council approved the 2007-08 contract for law enforcement with Grundy Co. Sheriff's Office.

Grundy Center pool gets $100,000 from Vision Iowa grant.

Pearl Oleson, 77, died May 1 at the Taylor House in Des Moines.

MAY 15, 1997

Jan Ehrig and Gary Karkosh were elected as new members at Parkview Manor Board of Directors.

Dike-New Hartford History Day students take honors at National History Day in Des Moines.

Mr. & Mrs. Fred Strohbehn have pledged $80,000 towards the new Heritage Center & Agricultural Hall in Morrison.

Thirty-five loads of dirt was hauled in by PCI for the Outdoor Learning Center at the Elementary School. Shrubbery has been ordered and will be planted by FFA members along with 2nd, 3rd & 4th graders PALS.

David Harberts, 20, Buckingham, died May 8 from injuries received in a motorcycle accident.

Herman Koch, 81, Wellsburg, died May 8 at Allen Hospital.

Earl Russell, 67, Traer, died May 8 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.

David Grunklee received 1997-98 Carvers Excellence in Education Award from the Ray Carver Trust in the amount of $4,176.

MAY 21, 1987

Matthew Thede, 3 years old, was killed on May 16 at his grandparents farm, 3 1/2 miles southeast of Reinbeck, when a semi tractor truck driven by his father struck the boy riding his tricycle.

Leonard Norris, 90, Reinbeck, died May 14.

Melvin Danielsen, 49, Cedar Falls, died May 12.

Mr. & Mrs. Jerry Thede are parents of a son born May 16.

MAY 26, 86

PCI was awarded the contract on Reinbeck's new water facility.

Curt Schneider, Reinbeck native, will be ordained into the ministry of the American Lutheran Church. Curt is the son Mr. & Mrs. Walter Schneider.

Sandra Hinders, Reinbeck & Dennis Jacobson were married May 14.

Elmwood pool will open May 28 weather permitting.

Janice Creswell named Salutatorian and Brent Scheuman was named Valedictorian.

Mrs. Robert (Jean) Stephan recently graduated from the University of North Dakota Medical School as a Family Nurse Practitioner.

Steven Heithoff and Jerry Lorenzen qualified for the State Track Meet in Des Moines May 27-28.

50 YEARS AGO

MAY 25, 1967

Reinbeck Women's Club plans for "Parade of Homes" tour on June 3. Proceeds go to the Educational Loan Fund.

Grundy Co. Board of Supervisors to sell lots in Zaneta to Raymond Dufel.

Bill Thede & Curt Schneider will be Reinbeck's representatives. They are sponsored by Action Post American Legion.

Mr. & Mrs. Chris Stephan have sold the bakery to Mr. & Mrs. Lloyd Carstensen of Gladbrook with a July 1 possession.

Mr. & Mrs. Bill Frei are parents of a daughter born May 9.

Rodrick Mitchell, 24, was commissioned an Army 2nd Lt. at Fort Belvior, Va. on May 5.

High winds and dust struck the area and a twister hit Gladbrook doing damage on Main St. in Gladbrook.
